The Bio-Box system, patented by ibiPLAST Srl, is innovative in the collection of organic kitchen waste. It consists of a ventilated container and composac bags. Among it's many advantages is the fact that the whole system 'breaths', allowing moisture to escape naturally from the waste. It's special lid, the most important feature, allows air to pass through when closed.

Even with a large quantity of wet organic waste, the Bio-Box system keeps working to capacity. Without this process water collects at the bottom of the box, often causing the bag to break. So, the Bio-Box can remain in the kitchen as there are absolutely no odors generated. It is a real kitchen utensil and not just a waste bin.

Tests were carried out in a controlled environment at 30degrees C and with a humidity level kept constant at 70-80%. Various samples of mainly wet mixed organic waste were used, with a weight of 1500g and constant composition which a typical family would collect (uncooked and cooked waste, citrus fruit, paper serviettes etc.) The results demonstrated that, after only three days - the average time the waste remains in the bin before bag is replaced - the weight loss of the contents was more than 25%.

Also, the Bio-Box system didn't show the traditional problems - bags breaking, odors, condensate in the bottom of the bin - which, when using other systems, have made the collection of kitchen organic waste at home somewhat messy and inconvenient.
